Born This Way...

I've always had an inner battle within myself. A battle of accepting, understanding, and truly loving myself. A battle against beliefs, religion, and society. While the battle and struggle is constant, today i feel more inspired and more encouraged than ever before.

As soon as i saw Lady Gaga and heard her voice 3 years ago...my heart skipped a beat...a light flickered inside of me. She was different, she was passionate, she was a freak. Immediately, i connected. Ever since that moment it was ALWAYS a dream of mine to work with this woman!!!! It was something i just HAD to do, something i HAD to experience. Sometimes when we dream, our dreams can actually fall short of what can really happen. A year and a half after my "introduction" to Gaga, something magical happened, something incredible, something that still excites me to this day. After working with Gaga's choreographer, Laurie Ann Gibson, on a project for another artist, i got a call booking me on Lady Gaga's infamous MTV VMA performance of "Paparazzi". Now to say i freaked out when i got the call is really doing the moment injustice. I burst into tears, ran up and down the street, called my mom screaming, bounced off the walls and bed in my room...i was in SHOCK!...my heart was racing!!!!! Could this really be happening!? AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

During rehearsals i still had to pinch myself...am i dreaming??? I was still in shock! Now the day she came to see the number and rehearse..i danced harder than i have EVER DANCED IN MY LIFE. I had my asthma inhaler on hand as a precaution...and while i didnt end up needing it, the moment literally took my breath away. It was surreal. I was dancing for Lady Gaga! HOLY MOLY!!!!! While the performance was a HUGE moment for me, unbeknownst to me it was actually just the beginning of my amazing journey with an artist that would touch my life.

The Monster Ball World Tour followed that performance, along with award shows and music videos...all with an artist i respected, admired, and appreciated. The journey was challenging and hard but beyond words in its amazement and fulfillment. I was always so inspired and in awe of the crowd she attracted. I always felt a connection with them. We all wore our freak flags proud. I was and continue to be beyond grateful for those experiences!

Last year, i left the tour to return to So You Think You Can Dance for Season 7 as an all star. Touring can be extremely tiring, so this was a nice break and a great challenge for me. I wanted to try new things and continue my growth as a person and as an artist. I got to work on some really fun projects after the TV show but felt like i was searching for something.

In January, i got a call to work on Gaga's new music video for a song entitled "Born this Way" It had been almost 8 months since working with her, so i was very excited. Now when i first heard the song, i did not dance, i literally stood there, tearing...shaking. In my eyes, this song was major, this song was full of love, this song had an incredible message...a message i believed in, a message i was touched by, a message i wanted to help spread. So much passion and love in her art and in her message. I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOO inspired. After filming the music video, i did not sleep for 2 days. I was on this high. I felt challenged, inspired, passionate, ignited, refreshed. I began looking at things in my life. Really looking at what was important. Looking at where i wanted to go, what i wanted to do, what i was doing. I wanted to be a part of this "movement".

The thing i love about Gaga is that she is not just an artist, she is a leader. She is the "mother monster" to the "little monsters", she is the light for people that are in the dark, she is the voice for people who feel afraid to speak. She researches and fights for equality. She accepts us EXACTLY as we are and encourages us to do the same. Never once while working with her have i ever been told to be someone i'm not. And i thank Laurie Ann Gibson for this as well. For allowing us to be the artist and the people we are. To encourage us to find our inner superstar and shine. This can be hard to find in an industry that has a lot to do with physical appearance and status. I truly do feel at home when i am working with Gaga and Laurie Ann...i can be me.

While all this seems simple, its not. We are also in a world that is filled with judgement, criticism, and hate. We live in a world where people feel they need to take their lives because it is just too hard. They feel they cannot be themselves, they cannot be loved, and they cannot be accepted. These are difficult things to deal with on top of all the other challenges we face during our lives. I was very much affected by the numerous suicides that have been happening lately. It really struck a chord in me and saddened me. I was always different from the rest. People would tease me, call me names, and put me down. I knew how it was to feel extremely low. I knew how it was to feel completely alone. There was a period in my life when i questioned my existence too, a period that didnt seem to matter whether i was here or not.

To be given the opportunity and to be able to dance with an artist that promotes and spreads the message of love, acceptance, and equality is everything to me at this moment in my life. I want to be a part of this movement. I want teens, adults, aliens, and monsters to know there is a world of love and hope. Through everything, i think thats what it all comes down to...L.O.V.E. Loving each other and loving ourselves. This is why i am returning to the last leg of the Monster Ball World Tour. I want to encourage people that are just like me, that are different from me, that it is ok, actually its more than ok...Its amazing to be who we are. We are filled with so much love and power and uniqueness. Our own individual potential is so powerful and so unique that we ourselves are the only ones who can truly tap into it and shine.

guys, seriously i dont know if i have the words to describe this album...

i ABSOLUTELY LOVED his first album and the stripped version of it....still do!

second album......hmmmm...didnt get it, never appealed to me...

third album.....i'm literally sitting here with NO words...trying desperately to think....nothing....i sit listening to it eyes closed, feeling it, shaking my head, sometimes singing along...loudly.......think Stevie Wonder.....you know when he gets into it and starts moving his head.....yeah thats how i get. sometimes i just sigh..

his lyrics are incredible, honest, revealing, bittersweet, passionate, real

now i literally have this album on repeat throughout my day....morning, day, night.....yes, even falling asleep....

BUT.....i do have my favorites....3,6,8....yes i know the numbers

STAY - the opening line kill me dead!....this man has a way of making you feel whatever he is feeling...so honest, so painful ....i sing out LOUD to this one......sorry neighbors

LOVER BE STRONG - another sing out loud tune....lyrics, music, voice....DEAD....his stories in his songs.......sigh

WATERFALL - ok.....now i can't really explain what this song does to me...it's not appropriate....hahahaha...But, seriously...it's not...it definitely takes me someplace.....i have this on repeat at bedtime

Its really hard to choose favorites as the entire album is INCREDIBLE...it always amazes me when an artist can have an album in which every song is GREAT...wait, why are you still reading this?.......go get it!!!! haha!

P.S. sooooooooooooooooooo bummed i missed him on concert....

SHAZAM.....now this is one of those things i was jealous of on the i-phone......when you hear a song on the radio, at a store, over dinner, in the bathroom, at a club....you get the point.....you launch this app and it FREEKING tells you what song it is!!!!!!!....even has links to purchase it.....this will definitely come in handy.....

SHE GOES AROUND SPEAKING LIKE A ROBOT...IN THIS CHARACTER OF GAGA FROM THE YEAR 3000....I MEAN REALLY!?....SHE HAD A SLOW SET IN HER CONCERT WITH A PIANO AND ALL....BUT LEAVE IT TO HER TO GO OUT OF THE BOX AND HAVE A GLASS PIANO, SINGING TO A GLASS MANNEQUIN, STOMPING THE KEYS WITH HER HEELS, ALL WHILE IN A DRESS MADE ENTIRELY OF BUBBLES.......NEVER BREAKING CHARACTER ONCE.....THE ENTIRE CONCERT....(I WISH THERE WAS A DOUBLE BOLD, I WOULD USE IT A LOT IN THIS ENTRY)

its like when your a kid and you see that big box and you just KNOW.....your heart is racing and you just can't wait to rip off the festive paper.....

i listened to the one preview clip the Yeah Yeah Yeahs had on their i-tunes before this Tuesday and it was exactly like that...you KNOW its gonna be something great....but YIKES....this turned out to be a DELICIOUS feast.....this album is the reason my ears are CARNIVORES!!!!!

So about a week ago i went to IKEA for the second time ever in my life........the first time i went was in Atlanta so i couldnt get anything because i wasnt living there!!...perfect, no decisions to make!

This time, i had a purpose, furnish my new apartment....specifically, my room!!!!

So with my mind set, i headed to IKEA.....WOW!....i remembered it from the first time, but when your actually looking for things, all of a sudden, there seems to be SO much!!!...PERFECT!

NOT!!!

I was so overwhelmed i had to leave, with nothing in hand....

NOTHING....

OVERWHELMED...

you think i'm joking....nope, i was literally overwhelmed....thinking "Gosh, where do i even start?"

This past weekend, i finally found my sheets (i know, i know...its been 2 months....i just knew what i wanted and couldnt find it) so i felt i had a better idea of what i was looking for......IKEA, round 3....3rd times a charm right????

I get there, optimistic, ready to shop! I start making my round...and then another round....and then another round....yup, and another........"I'm starving"...i'm thinking this is my reason for not being able to make decisions....so i decide to try IKEA's food...swedish meatballs, mashed potatoes, and some red berry thing for $4.99......A-MAZING!!!!!...seriously De-LISH! mmmmmm!!!! my stomach is filled, i've thought about the things i've seen, hopefully my mind will have fuel to make decisions...

Round 3 1/2......i begin making another round at the beginning of the store, i get to the bed frame i was looking at....

"Ooohhh, what's that bed frame over there???"

"Oh great Mark, i thought we decided over this one at dinner?"

"i KNOW, but this might be cute too!!"

"you know what!?!?!?!....your driving me crazy!!"

"i KNOW, i'm sorry, there's just so much, PLEASE be patient!"

"i've BEEN patient for the last 2 hours" ..... "AAAHHHHH, your driving me crazy"

"FINE! i'll get the one i said i was gonna get!"

(yes, this is just me, i can't shop with others......my mind is enough)

So i start heading down to the warehouse, collecting other things in my shopping bag....lights, decorative things, tools, etc.....No, it wasnt that easy.....same decision making process with each thing!....And then i finally get to the bed frame to actually pick it up so i can purchase it.....yup you guessed it, i start thinking again......

"Is this really what you want?"

"Mark, I've had it!!!!!!"

...sigh...... i drop my shopping bag and exit the store.......3 1/2 hours later......

NOTHING in hand....

AGAIN!.....

EXHAUSTED!!!!!

Seriously one of the BEST POP albums i've heard in a WHILE.....an album i can listen to from top to bottom!!! I know its been out for a minute but she has been KILLING it!!!...With her appearances and music videos lately (check out her recent videos "Eh, Eh" and "Lovegame")......GOSH!!!!! If your not into her yet...get into her, if your over her...get back in it!!! Ooohhhhh and check out her EP "The Cherrytree Sessions" on i-tunes...........GOOD STUFF!!!...good versions of some of her songs....

One of my absolute favorite foods of all time happens to be the simplest!!!!....

PB& J........mmmmm....sooooo ONO!

Just when i thought these fun comforting sandwiches couldnt get any better, i decide to take a trip to Trader Joe's.....one of my FAVORITE places to shop....and decide to try new peanut butter......yikes, leaving Skippy, should i? should i not?.....ahhhh, such tough decisions in life... "Alright Mark, calm down"..... "But what if i dont like it?" .... "Then you can get the one you ALWAYS get!" ... "Ok, thanks" .... so i decide to try......drumroll please..... Trader Joe's Unsalted Crunchy Peanut Butter!!!!

i get home and immediately want to try this as i am a bit hesitant with a new brand......

WOW! can i just say it is heaven....SOOOOOO thick and creamy!!! it is absolute deliciousness in your mouth!....YES! you can eat it by itself.....BELIEVE ME!!! But in a PB&J......my goodness....one of the best PB&J's...and i've experienced MANY PB&J's in my years of living.

So for now i'm sticking with it......wheat bread, trader joe's unsalted crunchy peanut butter, strawberry jelly (sometimes grape)....a little more peanut butter than jelly! :)

So..... a while ago my friend wrote to me saying i HAD to check out this video.....there was a guy in the video who reminded him of me....in the way he danced!

So....i go check it out......OH MY GOSH!!!....i cannot even tell you! This is exactly how i look when i hear good music and feel comfortable.....in the car, at home, in the street, at a club, in the shower.......i just move....ridiculous or not....just move!!!!

Let me explain......i'm a huge fan of music.....although that really is an understatement.....i mean REALLY HUGE!!! So some of you may know....tuesday's are the day where new music is released, God, i LAHV this day.....i will stay up late Monday night/early Tuesday morning just to be able to listen to all the new music that comes out on i-tunes......i also LAHV i-tunes, which also is an understatement... some Christmas's are FANTASTIC and some are just ok........But its always the excitement to see whats coming out that make Christmas Tuesdays so much fun!!! I'm like an excited spastic dog......yeah, i just might pee!!!! (but thats only when there's an album i'm really looking forward to....hee hee)

So when i did my usual i-tunes new music search, guess who has a new album????? i knew she was coming out with one, just didnt know it was so soon........

India FREEKING Arie.........God, i LAHV this woman.....an artist!!!! (to say the least) She's kind of like Mr.Kombucha.....but in music form, yeah all that insight and goodness, but in music form.....yeah i know, exciting!!! Anyway, its her 4th album......i think!?!?! It's entitled Testimony, Vol 2:Love & Politics, I have NEVER been disappointed with anyone of her albums!!! I'm downloading the 4th one as we speak.....you should check it out, it sounds a-mazing!!!

blackOUT-ing!!!

when i was back at home in Hawaii, there was a blackout (pretty much statewide....i'll just say statewide....sounds better...hee hee) anyway the entire state was dark except for the flicker of candlelight in people's windows or the random headlights from a passing car......

it was oddly arousing....it might have to do with my slight fascination to vampires (thanks to the twilight series) anyway i was sooooo excited!!!!!! i love when things like this happen....i just couldnt stay home!!!! COULDNT!!!!! so what else do you do?

Lately I've been a complete tea freak...i mean i've always liked a cup of tea here and there but Yogi tea's Kombucha Green Tea has turned me into an addict!! Lately i'll have 2-3 cups of tea daily!!!!! I'll mix it up, chamomile, detox, mint, etc.......but kombucha takes the prize...God i lahv it! And what makes it special is that the lil paper that is attached to the tea bag always has a message on it....sorta like a fortune cookie, but not really a fortune, just some goodness for your day! Today's message:

"Have wisdom in your actions and faith in your merits"

Good advice and good antioxidants!!!!
